Part-time AOD Nurse / Primary Care LAIB Facilitator (Melbourne)


Join a new initiative to help expand client access to long-acting injectable buprenorphine (LAIB) by helping practices upskill on initiation, administration, and patient management.

We are currently recruiting for a nurse to provide education to primary care teams about the use of an LAIB product for maintenance treatment of opioid dependence. This is a flexible, part-time, contract role based in Melbourne.

Our client introduced the first LAIB available in Australia. Their mission is to make individualised treatment for opioid dependence simple and accessible for patients and their healthcare team. As part of their mission, they are seeking to support General Practice with incorporating LAIB treatment into practice.

This is a new role, so adaptability is important. The ideal candidate is someone who is open to the role evolving – and wants to be part of the evolution.

The nurse facilitator will be responsible for engaging with general practitioners and their practice teams to provide education on LAIB initiation, administration, and ongoing management.

The key accountabilities of the nurse facilitator are to:

  • Develop and maintain a high level of technical/professional knowledge

  • Engage general practices to*: - Understand and address their information needs - Advance their understanding of the role of LAIBs in the maintenance treatment of opioid dependence - Provide administration guidance and demonstrations - Provide information to help to facilitate patient education and support recovery

  • Reporting

  • There may be additional responsibilities as the role evolves, including peer training, appointment planning/booking.

*Note: depending on COVID-19 restrictions, some engagement may be virtual


Skills, qualifications and experience:

  • AHPRA registration in good standing

  • AOD experience (mental health and / or experience with long acting injectables may be considered)

  • Passion for improving access to opioid dependence treatment in the community

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a clear communicator

  • An aptitude for communicating complex technical information

The role will involve travel around the greater Melbourne area; applicants must have an unrestricted driver’s license and a vehicle. All travel expenses will be reimbursed.
